What was the Ten Commandments actually made for?

In this sermon, we look closely at Deuteronomy 5 to see how God's law has so often been misunderstood, either turned into a ladder to earn God's favour, or dismissed as irrelevant now that Jesus has come. Both miss what the text is actually showing us: a law given to a people already loved, meant to lead to life, not to burden us. We trace the story Moses tells, from Israel's fear at Mount Horeb to God's surprising response about the heart he was really after, and see how Jesus is the one who finally lived out the obedience the law always called for.
