The Emmaus Community is a community housing complex located in Bayswater North. As a not-for-profit venture and financially separate from SCAC, it operates in partnership with Jubilee Housing Inc, an experienced tenancy management body initiated by the Box Hill and New Hope Baptist Churches.

Emmaus Community comprises 19 units of affordable housing with a park and playground area in a quiet suburban street.  Applicants must be on the DHHS (Vic) housing wait list.  “Emmaus” has some 50 residents from a variety of cultures, ethnicities and backgrounds, including young families, singles and elderly people.  This mix gives a true community environment.

A Brief History of the Emmaus ministry
In 1981 the people of South Croydon Anglican Church felt the Lord was leading them to buy six acres of land near the church.  The vision was to provide a healing, caring environment for those in particular need in the community.

An incorporated body was set up to facilitate the vision.  In 2003 a joint ecumenical venture harnessed State government funding for construction of the housing complex. The development from vision to reality has been an amazing journey for the relatively small congregation and it has been exciting to work with other churches and Christian agencies to be able to meet acute social housing needs in the community in a timely fashion.
Emmaus Pastoral Care Team
Caring in the Community
SCAC is committed to pastorally care for the residents living at Emmaus Community. Pastoral Care volunteers are available to meet with the residents during the year and provide social and other supports.  A fun Christmas party for residents is put on by the church each year in Emmaus Park.
